At least 27 mammalian species have also been documented in the area such as the endangered and endemic Philippine spotted deer, Visayan warty pig, Visayan leopard cat, Negros shrew and large fruit bats such as Philippine naked-backed fruit bat, Philippine tube-nosed fruit bat, giant golden-crowned flying fox and little golden-mantled flying fox.

The two lakes have distinct features and characteristics that make them a unique and fascinating natural wonder. Lake Balinsasayao is smaller than Lake Danao, covering an area of 76 hectares (190 acres), and is deeper, with a maximum depth of 90 meters (300 ft). It is surrounded by steep cliffs and lush vegetation, and its clear blue waters reflect the surrounding landscape, creating a picturesque view.

Lake Danao, on the other hand, is smaller, covering an area of 30 hectares (74 acres), and is shallower, with a maximum depth of 58 meters (190 ft). It is surrounded by rolling hills and verdant forests and is home to a variety of aquatic species, including several species of fish and freshwater crabs.

The lakes are known for their crystal-clear waters, which are considered to be some of the cleanest and clearest in the Philippines. The water quality is closely monitored by park rangers and local authorities to ensure that it remains pristine and free from pollution.

To reach the Twin Lakes, visitors must trek along a well-maintained trail that winds through the forested slopes of Mt. Talinis, crossing several streams and waterfalls along the way.
