Where Is Balanan Lake Located?
A Hidden Gem in Siaton, Negros Oriental
Balanan Lake is situated in Barangay Sandulot, Siaton, approximately 90 minutes south of Dumaguete City. Nestled within the Balanan Forest Reserve, the lake is fed by natural freshwater springs and framed by dense rainforest and mountain ridges. Its remote setting contributes to its calm atmosphere, making it one of the most serene inland destinations in Negros Oriental.
The drive itself is part of the experience. Guests enjoy scenic countryside views, coastal stretches, and mountain roads that gradually lead into cooler, greener terrain. This natural transition sets the tone for the Balanan Lake Xplore Tour, making arrival feel like a true escape.

What to Expect
Seamless Hotel Pickup and Guided Transfers
The Balanan Lake Xplore Tour begins with a morning hotel or resort pickup from Dumaguete City, Dauin, or Valencia, typically around 8:00 AM. Guests travel in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle with a professional local guide who provides context about the region, safety reminders, and the day’s itinerary.
Upon arrival in Siaton, guests are welcomed by local community guides and briefed before starting the lake experience.
Bamboo Raft Boating on Balanan Lake
A Calm Journey Across Crystal-Clear Waters
One of the highlights of the Balanan Lake Xplore Tour is the traditional bamboo raft ride. Rowed by skilled local guides, the raft glides quietly across the lake, allowing guests to fully absorb the tranquil surroundings. The still water reflects the surrounding forest, creating ideal moments for photography and quiet reflection.

The lake is home to various freshwater fish species and attracts birdlife, making it a peaceful spot for nature observation. Guests may also choose to swim in designated areas, as the spring-fed waters are clean and refreshingly cool.
Forest Reserve Exploration and Light Hiking
Discover Biodiversity in a Protected Eco-Zone
After boating, guests explore parts of the Balanan Forest Reserve through light, guided hiking trails. These paths wind through dense tropical vegetation, towering hardwood trees, and native plant species unique to the area. The hike is manageable for most fitness levels and focuses on appreciation rather than endurance.
Wildlife sightings may include birds, butterflies, squirrels, and occasionally monkeys. The guide shares insights into the forest’s ecological importance and local conservation efforts, adding educational value to the Balanan Lake Xplore Tour.

Balanan Falls Visit
A Refreshing Natural Reward
The hike leads to Balanan Falls, a scenic waterfall with cool, clear water cascading into a natural pool. Guests can take a refreshing dip, relax by the water, or simply enjoy the natural ambiance. This stop is often a favorite part of the Balanan Lake Xplore Tour, especially for those looking to cool down after the walk.
Optional Activities at Balanan Eco-Park
Family-Friendly Leisure Options
The tour may also include time at Balanan Eco-Park, a community-managed area featuring picnic spaces, open grounds, and simple recreational facilities. Families with children appreciate the relaxed environment, while other guests enjoy the chance to unwind before lunch.
Fishing opportunities may be available depending on conditions, with basic gear rentable locally. This optional activity adds flexibility to the Balanan Lake Xplore Tour, allowing guests to tailor the experience to their interests.
